It takes just 10 seconds for a visitor to leave your site. So how do you make them not leave your site so quick or better be interested in what you offer? Here are few things that you have to keep in mind while designing a website.

Outlook:
The very first thing that makes an impression over the visitor is the outlook of the site. You wouldn’t wanna chase them away with flashy, eye-straining, or a plain website. Before you hire a web developer to design your website take a look at the work he/she has completed before. Unprofessional outlook of your website is a fatal error. So make sure your web developer is a professional one. Taking a tour at his/her work hence is very important. Don’t make a mistake of taking it as a waste of time. It is always better to take the precaution rather than make 100 changes after the website has been developed, and keep in mind it’ll cost you a lot to do so. Be wise; hire a good, professional web developer.

Content: Believe it or not, content is the most important part of your website. It introduces you or your company, what message you’re trying to convey and what you’re trying to sell. Irrelevant content not only chases the prospects away but also gives you poor ranking on Search Engines. Search Engines are the hub to invite your prospects. So you don’t want to lose any chance on that. Preparing your content to get good ranking on Search Engines is known as SEO (Search Engine Optimization). It may cost you a bit more but trust me it’s worth it. So make your content interesting and search engine friendly.

Pictures: Someone said, “A picture can speak a thousand words”. The pictures on your site again should be relevant to what it is all about. If you’re selling kids’ toys, a picture of Paris Hilton with her diamonds showing off wouldn’t be a good idea. So choose the pictures wisely. You should know the targeted audience. While one picture may prove to be very attractive to one community, it might be taken as an offense to the other one. My advice will be a market survey first. If you’re selling products online, do not forget to define the alt tag for each product’s picture. It’ll help the search engine crawlers to index your site.

And my last tip would be to plan everything ahead keeping in mind the topics I just discussed.
