You’ve created a website that is visually pleasing. You have spent enough money on marketing as well. Overall you seem quite satisfied with it. As the days go by, you get good number of visitors but you are not getting any leads. There must be something wrong somewhere in spite of all the hard work. There might be few reasons your website is just getting visitors but not generating leads:

· Your content may be unreadable to many people.
· Your website may have errors or may not be compatible with all the browsers.
· You may not be giving the relevant information that people are looking for.
· It may be hard to navigate and may take a lot of time to load.

These problems may seem simple, but it plays a vital role in generating leads. When I say your content may be unreadable to many people, it means there might be something wrong with the text. You may be using wrong font or color which is very hard to read and strains ones eyes. You should also be careful about using correct grammar and simple words. Use of gibberish language might prove fatal. It is as important that your website should be compatible with all the existing browsers. When your page doesn’t load properly, it sure is a loss on your side. You should make sure that you provide relevant information on your website. Do make it clear what your site is about and give as much information as you can about your product. Testimonials and guarantees make a good impression over the visitors. At the end of the day, it is trust that matters. Once the visitors trust on your product, it won’t be hard for them to buy it.   It is important that your website is easy to navigate. Do provide each page with well defined icons. Use clear navigation and links. Use of large graphics, java applets, flash programs or ad banners might cause difficulty in loading the page. So try to make it simple and easy to load.
In short follow the simple steps mentioned below to improve your website:
1. The content of the website should be clear and should be able to cater all groups of people.
2. Give relevant and adequate information.
3. Make the navigation and links clear and noticeable. You can use site map or site search to make the navigation much easier.
4. Do not use unnecessary graphics and words to avoid distraction and confusion.
5. Make your website accessible to all types of browsers for example: Internet Explorer (IE), Firefox, Netscape, Opera on Windows and  Safari on Mac.

Domain Name argument!!

Choosing a domain name is not an easy task. It is confusing and needs lot of thinking process. What makes it harder is the experts suggestion of not using your company name as your domain name, unless you own fortune 500 company. They suggest instead selecting a keyword rich domain name. Are search engines that particular about domain names as well? When this question is popped out, I’d say the new blooming companies are the unlucky ones because most of the popular key phrases are already booked by other aged companies. So what is the solution for this then?

Let me mention few of the web rulers who have not mentioned their key words in their domain name: Google, Yahoo, MSN. They don’t seem to use key phrases at all. So if they are not using it and believe in their individual names, then I don’t think anyone is doing any wrong by not using key word rich domain name. I am quite sure they are into SEO just as much as anybody else in the world of internet, but they have used their own strategies to be popular and gained the recognition in this competitive internet space. So instead of wasting time on choosing the perfect keyword rich domain name, focusing on other marketing medium will be a clever idea.

You can start your website with your own company name, for e.g. www.abcbooks.com. My suggestion will be to use a short and a simple domain name which is easy to remember. Instead of yahoo if they’ve used yaddlydiddlyyeppy.com, don’t think the visitors will actually make an effort to remember the name or may be they’ll type the address wrong and land up in a different site. So name, my friends is very important, like John is a much easier name to remember than Klovesky.

Besides the domain name, the key area to focus is the content of your site. The content of your website should be relevant and readable, not just anything stuffed with keywords. As long as the visitors understand what you are selling, impressing the search engines is not quite important.

You can get your word out by submitting press releases, advertising in classifieds, getting the word out with your own blog, directory submission, search engine submission etc. There are so many forms of advertising these days that without relying on the search engines itself you can drive more traffic to your website. The more traffic you get the more you’ll be liked by search engines.

It takes just 10 seconds for a visitor to leave your site. So how do you make them not leave your site so quick or better be interested in what you offer? Here are few things that you have to keep in mind while designing a website.

Outlook:
The very first thing that makes an impression over the visitor is the outlook of the site. You wouldn’t wanna chase them away with flashy, eye-straining, or a plain website. Before you hire a web developer to design your website take a look at the work he/she has completed before. Unprofessional outlook of your website is a fatal error. So make sure your web developer is a professional one. Taking a tour at his/her work hence is very important. Don’t make a mistake of taking it as a waste of time. It is always better to take the precaution rather than make 100 changes after the website has been developed, and keep in mind it’ll cost you a lot to do so. Be wise; hire a good, professional web developer.

Content: Believe it or not, content is the most important part of your website. It introduces you or your company, what message you’re trying to convey and what you’re trying to sell. Irrelevant content not only chases the prospects away but also gives you poor ranking on Search Engines. Search Engines are the hub to invite your prospects. So you don’t want to lose any chance on that. Preparing your content to get good ranking on Search Engines is known as SEO (Search Engine Optimization). It may cost you a bit more but trust me it’s worth it. So make your content interesting and search engine friendly.

Pictures: Someone said, “A picture can speak a thousand words”. The pictures on your site again should be relevant to what it is all about. If you’re selling kids’ toys, a picture of Paris Hilton with her diamonds showing off wouldn’t be a good idea. So choose the pictures wisely. You should know the targeted audience. While one picture may prove to be very attractive to one community, it might be taken as an offense to the other one. My advice will be a market survey first. If you’re selling products online, do not forget to define the alt tag for each product’s picture. It’ll help the search engine crawlers to index your site.

And my last tip would be to plan everything ahead keeping in mind the topics I just discussed.

You get only 10-15 sec to make an impression on your website visitors. The outlook of the website plays an important role here. Lets say, you opened a site, the background color is florescent green, the text is highlighted with yellow, and the pictures are too big. What would you do? Simply click the close button and done, you’ll never visit the site again. This is just a worst example of an unimpressive site. So what helps a website make an impression over the visitors? Yes, the outlook is very important. When we visit a site, the pictures, the color theme, the way it has been organized makes us want to check what the site is all about or if it has what we are looking for. Graphics hence is essential. Along with giving a pleasant outlook, proper use of graphics show the creativity of the owner. The outlook is the icing of the cake. Its job is to tempt the visitor. So when you assign your website to be designed, make sure they have good graphic designers who can make your site look unique and professional.
